Troubleshooting and Laptops

While we can only provide limited support in the summer, the following are some suggestions for troubleshooting issues.

You may also find help on the PSD Technical Support and Resources website.

Laptops

You should let your home school counselor know that you are keeping your laptop for Summer School.

You can use a personal laptop to complete these classes. Phones and Tablets should NOT be used.

If you need a laptop or MiFi device to log onto the Internet, you can collect one from the Summer School team at Centennial High School, 330 E Laurel, 80524 - 970-488-4940

Please make sure to have your student ID and Password. You will need to log into the student account before you leave.

Browsers

Using a Recommended Browser and Operating System

Use a modern and up-to-date browser and Operating System. In general, this means the latest version of Edge, Chrome, or Firefox, and Safari and the latest version of MacOS and Windows 10.

The best suggestion for troubleshooting if something is not working (a video or link) is to try a different browser window (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari).

Enable Cookies

The purpose of the computer cookie is to help the website keep track of your visits and activity. This is common and necessary for nearly every website we visit. Visit the appropriate link below for information on making sure cookies are allowed.

Everyday Browser Hygiene: Clearing Cache and Cookies

Each of the pages and sites we visit every day may add thousands of files for each page from things such as images and pictures, advertisements, tracking data called ‘cookies’, and from the content of the page itself. All this data from so many different sites and pages may cause issues with sites and content that otherwise would work well on their own. Clearing browser cache and cookies regularly may easily resolve issues.

Downloads and Updates

Watch for pop-up messages asking you to add plug-ins to run items like videos.

Update and make sure you have a current Windows or Mac OS.

  • Adobe Download site, www.adobe.com/downloads and make sure you have the latest free versions of Flash Player and Shockwave (it's not as important to this, but while you're there throw in the Reader and Air downloads too ... they almost always need updating and you'll use them for something.)

  • Java, http://www.java.com/en/ and download the latest updates.

  • Apple QuickTime Download site, http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ and download the latest QuickTime version.

Completely restart your computer after you update to make certain that all program updates are fully installed on your system.

Grammar/Spell Checker

All Microsoft products have a grammar/spell checker included. There are free apps available online for free browser spellcheckers including a free version of Grammarly, which will check spelling in most browsers.

Office 365

If you are having trouble opening or saving any files (including for Apple) you should use your Office 365 Suite that comes with your school district access. (Please note that students from out of district might not have this function.)

  • Open your district email in a browser.

  • Click on the 9 square menu button in the upper corner.

  • Select Word.

  • This is a limited feature version of Word, but it will give you the capability to open and save Word files.
